Pot Luck Dinner

This month’s Pot Luck Group dinner will be hosted by Reed & Jack Parker and Bob & Janet Masengill at the Lake House on Sunday, February 11th, at 6:00 PM.  This will be an “old fashioned” pot luck in that the hosts will NOT provide the main dish.  However they WILL provide appetizers, bread, drinks, & a favorite dish.  Guests should bring a dish to feed 8 – 10 people.  You may bring an adult beverage if you choose.  Please RSVP NLT Wednesday, February 7th, to Reed & Jack Parker at 883-3258 in order to allow the hosts to set up the appropriate number of tables.  The dates for the entire year of Pot Luck Dinners can be found on the calendars at www.strauspark.org.

Women’s Book Club

Joyce Carney will lead a discussion of David McCullough’s “1776” when the Women’s Book Club meets at the Lake House on Monday, February 19th at 1:00 PM.  The Book Lovers’ Edition of Trivial Pursuit will be played after the discussion.  Bring your favorite snack to enjoy with the wine or soft drinks that will be served.  As always, “1776” is available at Highland Books at a 10% discount for Book Club members.  The book to be discussed in March will be “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” by Mark Haddon.  April’s selection will be “These Is My Words” by Nancy Turner.

Social Committee

Volunteers are needed to serve on the SP Social Committee.  Please call Janet Masengill at 884-9339 if you’re willing to help.  Let’s give those “old reliable” folks a break from doing all the work!

strauspark.org Update

As I stated earlier, the minutes of the SPMA Board meetings will be available only on the website in the password-protected area beginning this month.  So far I have only received one email expressing interest in having tutorials at the Lake House on using the website.  We’ve got to have enough interest to make it worthwhile, so please remember to email me if you want us to do the tutorials.  Send us your suggestions & ideas.  Remember, this is your website.

Market Street Update

Exciting things are happening at Market Street!  Straus Park Realty plans to open at 4101 by February 14th.  Carpet and More will open at 4102 by April 1st. This Naples, FL, company will offer a complete line of floor coverings including carpet, marble, hardwoods, tile, etc.  Brevard Travel has opened at 4103.  The latest to join the list of Market Street’s coming businesses is Blue Ridge Quick Print.  This graphics, printing, & communication company is currently located on Main Street in downtown Brevard.  Site 3 has been taken off the market & is now under “letter of intent”.  This site will contain an 8,000 sq. ft. building.
