This month’s pot luck will be held on Sunday, October 9, at 6:00PM at the Lake House & will be hosted by Debbie & Mike Buck & Gerri & Don Crane.  The entrée will be Coq au Vin with wild rice.  Soft drinks, coffee, & iced tea will be provided.  Please BYOB if you’d like an adult beverage before or during dinner.  To make reservations & to coordinate the vegetable, salad, dessert or hors d’oeuvre you will bring call Gerri (862-5667) or Debbie (883-2440) no later than Tuesday, October 4th.

Janet Masengill will lead the discussion of this month’s selection, “An Unfinished Life” by Mark Spragg.   This book is available at Highland Books at a 10% discount to book club members.  The meeting will be held at the Lake House at 1:00PM on Monday, October 17th.

     •  Car Rallye - October 22nd - 1:30PM

             - Rediscover the beauty of Transylvania County Meandering through Fall Foliage
                 - Over 3 hours teams will follow directions for winding their way throughout Transylvania County, collecting Answers to Scavenger Questions and Transylvania Trivia and Meeting at a Mystery Destination for Supper and Prizes.
                 - Plan on staying through the evening! All Straus Park owners and guests are eligible to participate.
                 - This is about fun and beauty, not about speed and distance calculations.
                 - You will want to have:
                         1. a car with a full tank of gas and a working odometer
                         2. A Team (1 Driver and at least 1 navigator per car)
                         3. A second team of 1-2 "navigators" may ride in a car
                         4. A clipboard and a pen
                         5. Consider bringing binoculars, cell phone, driving music
                 - We will provide:
                         1. Directions, Scavenger Questions, Trivia Questions,
                         2. Supper,
                         3. Prizes,
                         4. and a bail-out envelope so you can join us, even if you get lost.
